Back in 2003 it was clear that an ambitious programme of Estate improvements would be required across our region which included some of the poorest estate nationally in the NHS.

Prior to 2003 there was little faith in construction projects in the NHS, schemes tended to be delivered of poor quality, late, and on average costs were 17% higher than planned.

A decade-long working partnership with Laing O’Rourke driven by the Trusts Capital Projects Team (CPT) has helped transform this perception of construction and resulted in a revitalised estate across the Trust which has had a major positive impact on our clinical services.

Since 2003 the Trusts CPT has worked tirelessly to drive the quality, cost and innovation into our construction works in partnership with Laing O’Rourke.

As well as facilitating how construction schemes should be delivered the team have worked tirelessly to develop design solutions for the challenges posed in Mental Health.

The CPT have delivered new builds and many improvement schemes within very challenging timelines with differing complexities, many requiring completion on occupied wards, requiring creative design solutions.
